Home to St. Martin's College, run by Benedictine monks, Lacey has a strong educational tradition. The college, along with the new South Puget Sound Community College satellite located at 4220 6th Ave SE, has brought in a stream of young people, who add enthusiasm and vigor to Lacey's diverse community.

The city, which lies directly to the east of Olympia, is home to over 300 home based businesses. Many of those businesses are geared to serving to high retired population in Lacey, but the statistics speaks more to the Lacey resident's desire to be their own boss, and live life the way they want to live it.
